Chapter One “We interrupt this program…” Matt Rascon’s fingers paused over the keyboard and he turned his attention to the television. The agitated meteorologist made him turn up the volume. “Apologies for disturbing your Sunday evening,” the weatherman said, “but the National Hurricane Center issued an update on Jonny. The high pressure that’s been protecting us has shifted east. Louisiana’s in the clear, but it doesn’t look good for Houston. By late Wednesday, we could-” Matt’s Blackberry chirped, and he closed the lid of his laptop before glancing at the display. His assistant, Tony Bolton. Sucking in a deep breath, Matt hit the talk button. Tony was to the point, as always. “What’s the plan?” Matt rubbed his temple. “Best case, it turns north before it gets here. Worst case, we’ve three days to evacuate a quarter-million Brexana residents. Call the Harris County Office of Emergency Management and see if they’ve any plans to evacuate Houston. I’ll meet you at our Emergency Operations Center in thirty minutes.”
